The Reconfiguration of Children and Children's Literature in a Globalised World
On Monday 27th April, at St Patrick’s College Drumcondra, eminent Professor Jack Zipes of the University Minnesota delivered a lecture on ‘The Reconfiguration of Children and Children’s Literature in a Globalised World’. The evening was chaired by Dr Mary Shine Thompson. The lecture was attended by a large audience of about three hundred students, teachers, scholars and children’s writers. His lecture was erudite, stimulating and provocative and discussion continued long into the evening and even into subsequent days
The next morning Professor Zipes gave a superb story-telling workshop in a local primary school to second-class pupils. The workshop was observed by a group of teacher educators. The visit was jointly hosted by St Patrick’s Centre for the Study of Children’s Literature and Culture and Poetry Ireland and was organised by Celia Keenan and Jane O’Hanlon.
