Roboshow 2008

The 9th Annual Empowering Minds Roboshow took place in St. Patrick’s College on Tuesday May 13th 2008. The children showcased what the young engineers, designers and programmers of tomorrow are doing in school today.
Over 300 Primary school pupils and their teachers from 12 schools (including 2 special schools) from around the country exhibited their work. Many of the same pupils exhibited also at the BT Young Scientist Exhibition in the RDS in January.
The following counties were represented: Dublin, Kildare, Laois, Tipperary, Kilkenny & Sligo and project themes for this year included a study on coal mining, environmental awareness & waste management, aviation, Dublin’s bridges, Energy, the Titanic & Dublin city.
The RoboShow is an opportunity for the children aged from 8 to 13 years of age, to exhibit the imaginative projects they have been constructing over the course of the school year.
They plan, research and build these projects while engaging in multi-disciplinary cross-curricular learning and they make extensive use of a range of digital technologies including robotics programming, digital photography and film making to present their work. Some of them are also using blogs to document their work in school and share it with the wider world
This year for the first time there were second level pupils participating in and attending the event. One Transition Year pupil demonstrated his Junior Cert Design & Technology Project built using LEGO Robotics materials to a never ending line of fascinated children.
