Science in Primary Schools
The College, through researchers Dr Janet Varley, lecturer in Bioscience, and Cliona Murphy, lecturer in Science Education, has successfully achieved funding from the NCCA (National Council for Curriculum and Assessment) for a national project on Science in primary schools. The purpose of the research project is to answer “what is science like forc hildren in primary school?”. It will examine what children learn in science, where they learn it, how they learn it and with whom. Direct classroom observation of Science in action will be a key element to the research that will also gather data via questionnaires and pupil interviews. The funding has allowed the College to engage a Researcher who will conduct the research over a one year period at the end of which a final report will be submitted to the NCCA.
