Christmas Concert
St Patrick’s College Choral & Orchestral Society presented their Christmas Concert on the 4th December in the College Auditorium.
The programme commenced with Beethoven’s Symphony No 1- Adagio Molto- Allegro con Brio (First movement), which was in sonata form and was conducted by Gavan Ring. This was followed by Beethoven’s Romance in G Major with Soloist Anna Fliegerová and conducted by Jean Timmins.
Toy Symphony was next which was originally accredited to the work of Joseph Haydn but further research proved it to be the work of Leopold Mozart, Wolfgang’s less well-known father. This included St Patrick's College staff soloists Nóirín Ní Nuadhain, Paula Kilfeather, Susan Hegarty and Andrew O’Shea. Jean Timmins conducted the Allegro, Chole Kenny the Menuetto and the Finale was conducted by Brian Gilligan.
The wonderful evening concluded with A Ceremony of Carols (Opus 28) by Benjamin Britten with Andrea Malir on Harp and conducted be Ruth O’Leary. Soloists included Gráinne Carroll, Chole Kenny, Orla Loughman and Christine Smith.
