Teacher Professional Development Partnership with Schools Project

The Teacher Professional Development Partnership with Schools Project is a five-year research project into the processes, structures and supports required to develop collaborative ways of working with schools during teaching practice.  The closing seminar for Phase 3 (2007-2008) of the partnership with schools project took place on 29 May 2008.  Phase 3 focused specifically on developing a whole school approach to working with student teachers.  St. Fintan’s NS, Sutton, St. Joseph’s GNS, Finglas, Balscadden NS, and Gaelscoil Bhaile Munna were involved in Phase 3 along with 24 final year BEd students and a project team.  Dr Pauric Travers in his opening address emphasised the importance of developing the role of schools in teacher education and the benefits which accrue to student teachers’ professional learning alongside benefits for schools and the College.   Emer Egan, Assistant Chief Inspector, in her address, highlighted the significance of collaborative initiatives with schools and the manner in which the partnership project emphasised the code of professional values as laid out by the Teaching Council.   Dr Mark Morgan responded to presentations made by Marian Farrelly, Principal Teacher, by Helen Watters, primary teacher, and by participating students, mapping out possibilities for future phases of the partnership project in the process.  The Teaching Council was represented at the seminar by Áine Lawlor, Director/CEO.   Deirbhile Nic Craith, Senior Official, represented the INTO.  Risteard Ó Broin, Senior Inspector, was also in attendance.  The seminar was facilitated by Paula Murphy, Seán Mac Conmara and Bernadette Ní Áingléis (project co-ordinator).
