The Education for a Just World Partnership Delivers Training
The Education for a Just World Partnership delivered training in engaging young children in global justice issues to over 200 early childcare educators around the country during Autumn 2011. The Partnership, between the Centre for Human Rights and Citizenship Education in St Patrick's College and Trocaire, has been working with the County Childcare Committees to offer professional development sessions, sharing the results of the partnership’s recent research and resource development work. As part of this programme, in November, Rowan Oberman (Education Department, St Patrick's College), Coordinator of the Partnership, presented to 70 pre-school educators as part of a day’s training organised by Wicklow County Childcare Committee. The session asked educators to explore global justice issues, their conceptions of young children as global citizens and to consider suggested methodologies for introducing global and justice related work into their pre-school setting. Each childcare service at the event took away a Just Children Story Sack produced by the partnership. The incredible interest on the part of childcare providers for the training indicates the enthusiasm for including global citizenship work in early childcare educational settings.
