Zambia-Ireland Project .... ongoing exchange visits
In June five Irish lecturers were hosted by Charles Lwanga and Kitwe colleges in Zambia as part of the Zambia Ireland Teacher Education Partnership (ZITEP). Ronan Ward and Michael O’Keeffe from St Patrick’s College took part in this visit along with Katherine Lally and Fiona Nic Fhionnlaoich from Froebel College and Marty Holland from Mary Immaculate College Limerick.
The team were understandably affected by the sudden death of Mr Jonathon Haazela, a lecturer in Charles Lwanga College who was instrumental in developing the proposal for ZITEP. We commend Jonathon’s colleagues in Charles Lwanga who continued with the ZITEP programme and who hosted us so warmly in what was a clearly difficult time for them.
The trip was planned to build on the outcomes from the recent visit of Zambian lecturers to Ireland in April. The programme in both Colleges therefore focused on developing ideas around group work that may be effective in the Zambian context as well as continuing to share ideas around delivery of content in curriculum areas. A full account of the visit activities can be found in the ZITEP area of the St Patrick’s moodle site.
In early September an inter-college meeting between both of our partner colleges in Zambia will take place where lecturers will have the chance to work together, share learning and identify priorities for their respective curriculum areas. The outcomes of this meeting will inform the content of the next exchange visit to Ireland from 11th to 22nd October.
