Zambia-Ireland Teacher Education Partnership (ZITEP)
A delegation of 8 lecturers from Kitwe and Charles Lwanga Colleges in Zambia recently visited St Patrick’s College and the other primary education colleges in Ireland as part of the Zambia – Ireland Teacher Education Partnership. The partnership supports the Zambian lecturers in adapting and developing methodologies which are appropriate and effective for the Zambian context. During their two weeks in Ireland the group observed primary school teachers and worked with lecturers both on a one-to-one basis and in workshop style sessions. They were particularly impressed with the interaction between teacher and learner in Ireland and are keen to incorporate some of what they observed into their own lectures back in Zambia as well to try out some of the methodologies in local primary schools. They will be supported in this by the next delegation of Irish lecturers who will be visiting the Zambian colleges in June.
The visit of the lecturers was followed by a meeting of the joint steering committee for the partnership which took place in Belvedere House. This committee, which comprises Zambian and Irish representation from the respective Departments of Education, Irish Aid and college principals, reaffirmed their commitment to the future development of the partnership.
Lecturers in any of the participating colleges who would like to participate in ZITEP either through the online site or in an exchange visit please contact Mary Kerr on 01-8842348 or at mary.kerr@spd.dcu.ie
