New Graduate Diploma in Special Educatcational Needs

 

A New Graduate Diploma in Special Educational Needs was launched by the Special Education Department on 25 September.  The inception of this course marks an historic moment in the history of continuing professional development for teachers of pupils with special educational needs in Ireland. For the first time all teachers working with pupils with special needs in mainstream national and special schools are taking a common course leading to the same qualification. This is a very welcome development as it enables us to offer teachers the opportunity both to train to meet the whole range of special educational needs and to develop in-depth expertise in particular areas through a combination of generic, specialist and elective modules. This is the first time a course of this type has been offered in Ireland, and we believe it will enable us to meet the greater diversity of needs of teachers taking the course in the most effective way possible.
