Beidh ceiliúradh ag Roinn na Gaeilge Coláiste Phádraig saol is ar shaothar Chathail Uí Shándair (1922 -1996), ar an Aoine, 8 Aibreán.Tosóidh an ceiliúradh ar 5:30 i.n. nuair a thabharfaidh an tOllamh Philip O’Leary, Boston College, caint ar shaothar Uí Shándair agus beidh léamha in ómós do Chathal Ó Sándair agus sólaistí ar fáil i ndiaidh na cainte.
Ba é Cathal Ó Sándair an scríbhneoir ba bhisiúla sa Ghaeilge san fhichiú haois, agus breis is 160 leabhar foilsithe aige. Mar a deir an tOllamh Alan Titley faoi: ‘Is é gaisce scríbhneoireachta Chathail Uí Shándair an gníomh aonair pinn is éachtaí i stair an úrscéil Ghaeilge.’
Tá an ceiliúradh seo mar chuid den Chéad Chomhdháil Idirnáisiúnta ar Litríocht Ghaeilge na nÓg, urraithe ag Coiste Taighde Choláiste Phádraig agus ag Foras na Gaeilge.
The Irish Department, St Patrick’s College will celebrate the life and work of the Irish-language writer Cathal Ó Sándair (1922 -1996), on Friday, 8 April. This celebration will begin at 5:30 p.m., with a lecture by Professor Philip O’Leary, Boston College, entitled ‘The Big Bang: Cathal Ó Sándair Creates Popular Literature in Irish’. This will be followed by readings from Ó Sándair’s work and light refreshments.
Cathal Ó Sándair was the most prolific Irish-language writer of the twentieth century, having published over 160 books. In the words of Professor Alan Titley: ‘Cathal Ó Sándair’s literary feat is the most extraordinary individual achievement in the history of the Irish-language novel.’
This bilingual celebration is part of the First International Conference on Irish-Language Children’s Literature, sponsored by the St. Patrick’s College Research Committee and Foras na Gaeilge.
