First ZITEP Exchange Visit to Zambia

The first ZITEP (Zambia- Ireland Teacher Education Partnership) exchange visit took place at the end of March with 6 lecturers from Irish teacher education colleges spending two weeks at Charles Lwanga and Kitwe Colleges, our partner institutions in Zambia. 

As this was the first exchange visit of ZITEP, the aim was for lecturers to find out more about the education system in their partner country.  The programme therefore consisted of presentations and discussions around the principles of primary education in each country with time also given over for Irish and Zambian colleagues from the same discipline to compare and contrast pedagogical approaches to their subject.  The Irish team was also taken to primary schools in the area to observe some lessons and meet with classroom teachers. 

We received a very warm welcome from both colleges with Charles Lwanga College organizing a wonderful St Patrick’s Day party for us and Kitwe arranging a delicious Zambian lunch.
