The reputation of St Patrick's College as a centre of academic and literary excellence has long been established: among its alumni are John McGahern, Patrick McCabe, Francis McManus, Daniel Corkery, John Coolahan, Michael Herrity, Eoghan Ó Tuairisc and Máirtín Ó Cadhain.
